Following the success of the 2024 edition which saw Nigerian First Lady, Remi Tinubu bagged an award, preparations towards hosting the year 2025 edition of the annual Agricultural fiesta, tagged Agroween, have kicked off in earnest.
The year 2024 edition was a two day event which held in collaboration with the Yaba Collect of Technology, with the school’s Rector Dr Ibraheem Adedotun as Co-host.
With the theme: Unlocking Agricultural Potential For Economic Growth, the event that took place at the Yaba Tech premises, was Chaired by a Former Commissioner in Lagos and Chairperson LASACO Assurance PLC, Mrs Teju Phillips.
Nigeria first lady, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu got a Special Agro Recognition Award( ARA), for her promotion of Agriculture and initiative towards food sufficiency.
The program is a food, Agriculture and Innovation festival, powered by the Intergenerational Rescue foundation, a United States Of America based Non Governmental Organization.
According to Agroween ‘s Chief Volunteer cum COO, Bimbola Bolaji-Aghahowa, the 2025 edition of the event has been designed to be bigger than the previous ones.
In the words of Aghahowa, the success of the last edition is motivation for us to want to do more in the area of creating awareness for the need for food sufficiency, Agricultural produce availability, encouraging youth farmers and quality farm produce display and sales.
The COO said there are plans to extend the festival beyond the two days it had last year, adding that more farmers and food products producers and entrepreneurs will be given more opportunity to sell and display thier products.
She revealed that many people are looking forward to the food products sales this year because of the unimaginable cheap prices food items were sold last year.
” This year edition will be bigger as we expect more sellers and products on display. We shall also be unveiling some of our Youth farmer clubs, to send the signal to others that Agriculture is no longer a business of the future but a business of now and our youths must be encouraged to be part of this trend because it’s important that food is available in the country”.
Aghahowa who mentioned that modalities are still going on regarding the dates for the event, called on individuals, corporate organisations and government to support Agroween’s desire for food sufficiency in the country.
