Agboola Sunday, the Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ekiti State Command is in the eyes of the storm.
Since he was posted to Ekiti state early this year, Sunday has always been in the news for the wrong reasons.
Recall that, barely an hour after taking over from his predecessor, John Fayemi, Sunday ordered that, riffles should be given to about ten officers of the state to embark on duties to Oshogbo in Osun state. The duty was later discovered to be illegal.
This singular act, this reporter gathered, infuriated Commandant Adaralewa of Osun Command as he called Agboola to order, imploring him to focus more on Ekiti since he has been posted out of the Osun State.
This development was brought to the knowledge of the Commandant General, Dr Audi Ahmed, who has zero tolerance for corruption among his officers.
Ahmed queried Agboola and warned him to desist from any act of illegality as the Civil Defence is noted for integrity.
Sources within the Command alleged that Commandant Agboola’s love for money has practically paralysed the operational activities in Ekiti State Command, as he allegedly takes all the proceeds from officers on beat, without a recourse for the officers attached to the beat. Some of the officers could only groan behind for the fear of being posted out of the state by the Agboola who is said to always threaten the officers with bad posting.
A source revealed how Agboola reckless lifestyle among female officers in the command is becoming worrisome even as he was said to have boasted severally that, no one, including the CG could determine his career in Civil Defence as he said , the Ineterior Minister, Olubunmi Ojo is his close friend, that he is fully aware of all his activities in Ekiti State.
This reporter also gathered that, rather than turn a new leaf, Agboola, created a squad, known as SWART, headed by one Sanni, a Supritendent of the Corps. The squad members,it was gathered, are usually armed to the teeth, with face cover, in order to prevent the public from identifying their faces.
The squad, with the instruction of Agboola usually go the town to harass and intimidate the youths on sight and eventually arrest and detain them, while Sanni, and his boys would seize the suspects phones, check through their bank statements of account and force them to part with heavy sum, to secure their bail.
The SWART squad since it’s creation in the command, has caused more harm than good in the State, as the innocent teeming youths are harassed and intimidated with no just a cause, with the indiscriminate use of the gun,shot in the public indiscriminately to harass them.
Agboola’s extortion strategy includes using an Hausa man, Mukhtar Musa, a POS operator in Sasa market, close to the Command headquarter, with the account number, Zenith Bank,2282572545, where suspects usually pay money to the command on instruction.
A suspect , ( name withheld) wants Musa’s Zenith bank account investigated, to enable the Command authorities know the level of atrocities being committed in the State by the Commandant.
Investigation also revealed that, one Kehinde Elijah Popoola’s 406,000, meant for his school fess, was collected by the Command through Musa’s Zenith bank account on, 27th of June, 2024 at about 17:19 oo hours.
This money was transferred through Kehinde Popoola’s Access Bank Account.
A youth organisation in the state, it was scooped, is currently planning a state wide protest against the activities of the Ekiti State Command which they claimed, breathe heavily on the neck of the youth.
According to a source privy to the youth organisation, the protest scheduled to take place in the new week will see the protesters storming the government house, the palace of Ewi of Ado Ekiti and Chief Afe Babalola’s office.
The choice of the protest sites, it was gathered, is to take their complain to the personalities in the locations and prevail on them to talk to the authority concern “to allow Ekiti youth breathe and also stop the corruption being perpetrated by the in Civil Defence Corp Command.
