People’s Democratic Party’s Candidate in the scheduled November 2024 gubernatorial election in Ondo state, H. E. Agboola Alfred Ajayi, has declared his intention to effectively engage his deputy, beyond the redundant role allowed for the office by the constitution, if elected governor of the state.
The former deputy governor made the declaration on a Channels Television programm , Politics Today, where he was guest.
He decried the limited work schedule apportioned to the office of the deputy governor by the constitution, even as he maintained that he will allow his deputy to be fully engaged and more useful to the system and the people.
According to the former federal lawmaker, a busy deputy will relieve the governor of stress.
” It’s a joint ticket, so should the execution of the assignment too. If my deputy is busy, that will mean less stress for me. I will ensure people interact with my deputy more, the governor can not see everybody, the deputy should be busy and not made redundant as it is presently the practice” .
Ajayi who registered the confidence, to win the November election, said the daily support his candidature continue to garner among the people of the state, is assuring enough, as he is seen as the hope of the people after they have been let down by the ruling government.
Insisting that people are tired of the current administrators and are hungry for change, Ajayi said “what was the price of rice, cement, petrol and other household items before and how much do people buy them now. So, we need to change the system, we need to try another government and that’s exactly what the people are already waiting to do”.
Expressing his readiness, to make the state economically viable, with emphasis on the promotion of commerce, Ajayi promised to explore the economic potentials of the riverine area to the advantage of the state.
Giving details of some of his economic programs, Ajayi said he understands the requirements to revive the economy of the state and overtime, make it independent of federal allocation.
“I know that the economic activities of our state rely on construction of roads to link the riverine areas. If this is done, even Lagos State will be better for it because it will be decongested.
“What Lagos has is a very small portion of what we have in Ondo. We have the longest coastline in the entire West Africa
“So, if we can develop access road to that area, the problem of the state would have been half solved. All we just need is to construct roads and investors will invade the area to construct port, tourist centres amongst others
“Olusegun Agagu, when he was governor started it but it terminated at Ugbo-nla”
Ajayi said he intend work along the same vision and beyond, to bring the economic viability of the state to the fore.
