Former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon Agboola Ajayi has established reasons he should be the choice of his party to fly its banner in the November 2024 gubernatorial election in the state.
Hon. Agboola Ajayi, popularly known as Agbo, is one of the aspirants eyeing the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) gubernatorial ticket.
Speaking at the Maryland Hotel, Okitipupa, meeting venue of PDP aspirants from Ondo South with Ondo South Senatorial district leaders and stakeholders, at the weekend, Agbo said he stands a better chance to win the election for the party.
He hinged his belief on his experience and detailed knowledge of the electioneering process, having been through it at various stages.
At the meeting, meant to profile the aspirants with the possibility of arriving at a consensus candidate, Agbo registered his readiness to support any candidate who emerges through a fair and transparent process if the party eventually decides on a primary election.
Making the case for his qualification for the ticket, Agbo said ” my unmatched experience is a plus for our great party. I was a former Supervisor, Council Chairman, Member House of Reps and deputy governor.
” I have become familiar with the terrain and with a deep knowledge of the system. The relationship I have been able to build in the state and beyond it, with people and divers interests of electoral influence overtime, will no doubt come to play at a time like this
” The crisis within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirants and the lack of performance by the government would give the opposition the leeway to clinch the governorship seat. However , the only way we can use the situation to our advantage, is if a candidate who knows his onions and can play the game as a result of his wealth of my kind of experience is put forward to wrestle for the seat”
The aspirant who submitted that he has ” a very loaded manifesto” added that he understands “how Ondo State can be governed and everybody will be happy”
At a media parley where Agbo had formally declared his interest to run for the election some weeks ago, he had posited that he understands what are required to revive the economy of the state.
“I understand how to run the state without relying on federal government allocation. I can prove it to anybody. I understand where there is money in Ondo State.
“We must change the narrative by having a government that knows how to unlock potentials in the state. How do we make use of the natural virgin environment God has given to us. We will open our coastal areas in Ondo State.
Speaking on the planned consensus candidate for the party, he said “Consensus can work if all the aspirants agreed to it. If one said no, then there is no consensus. All of us must agree without a dissenting voice”
