Int’ Women’s Day: Agbo Wants More Female Political Presence

Former deputy governor in Ondo state, Hon. Agboola Ajayi has advocated for a more  politically female friendly environment to promote genuine inclusivity of the female gender in politics .

The seasoned administrator and aspirant of the  People’s Democratic Party’s in the state’s November 2024 gubernatorial election, said “women are natural achievers whose positive aura enhance and breed positivity, even when the environment is not too encouraging”

These are contained  in Agbo’s message, marking the year 2024 International Women’s Day, issued by the Agboola Ajayi  Campaign Organization in Akure on Friday.

Submitting that ” though there have been more representation of women in our politics now than what was obtainable in the past” Agbo said ” our women needed to be encouraged more” even, as he challenged the women to “show up and fill your space”

The lawyer who registered that women in the state had proved to be very reliable at whatever level of public service  they were given the opportunity to serve, however,  maintained that the women deserve more roles in the polity. 

 He said their relevance in ensuring the progress and stability of the state’s polity,can not be over emphasized.

According to Agbo Ajayi, women were created  as solution providers, with a high level of emotional intelligence, “hence their ability to always provide that platform that makes peace available in any  environment they are allowed to function”.

Challenging women in the state to  “come out and fill your space”  Agbo said the time does not call for excuses, adding that ” when you show up, the men  won’t have a choice than to embrace you and make you play your motherly oriented political role”

Making particular reference to the role  famous female  activist, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti played in the promotion of humanity within the polity, at her time, Agbo said there are still enough space and room for more Funmilayo Ransome Kutis to operate.

“To her credit, the woman activist among others, left the enviable record of  a campaign to help Nigerian women obtain the right to drive a car. 

” She was one of the most influential people who negotiated for the independence of the country with British authorities. Her activities were a kind of eye opener, that women can as well be politically relevant like the the men folk” 

The former number two man in the state thus, “urge our women to turn up more and take up  your space as it has become plain, that you do have a crucial role to play in moving our state forward”
