The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State have officially pulled out of the scheduled January 18 (Saturday) Local Government election in the state.
In a notification letter, dated 14th January 2025 and signed by its State Secretary , Barrister Oluseye Adejimi addressed to the Chairman, Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission, ( ODIEC) the PDP said it took the decision “following the review of prevailing circumstances surrounding the forthcoming election”
Explaining its decision, the PDP said as a party Committed to the principles of a free, fair and credible elections, it’s deeply concerned about certain actions and omissions by ODIEC which have raised significant doubts about the Commission’s capacity to conduct the election in an impartial and transparent manner.
Thus, the opposition party declared that, in pursuit of justice and adherence to due process, it has instituted legal action, challenging ODIEC’s failure to comply with the rules and provisions outlined in the electoral guidelines.
” Until this matter is conclusively resolved by the courts,.it would be inappropriate for our party to participate in an election process compromised by irregularities” the party maintained.
The PDP , thus urged ODIEC ” to address these concerns promptly and take all necessary steps to restore confidence in the electoral process “
