Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, has revealed the main reasons behind the continued relative peace being enjoyed in the state despite renewed attacks by some non-state actors in the Northeast zone of the country.
Specifically, the governor attributed the relative security in Yobe State with the strengthened collaboration his government has with the military and other security agencies as well as regular moral and financial support for them to perform.
Governor Buni, who disclosed this on Wednesday at the Armed Forces Officers’ Mess in Asokoro, Abuja shortly after receiving a Peace Building Award, which he bagged, noted that security of his people’s lives and property were paramount to him, hence his reason for his continued efforts in the area of security.
Speaking to journalists, Buni, who was represented by the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the state, Hon. Saleh Samanja, told journalists that both moral and legal obligations are also imperative and should be employed to cooperate with the security agencies to achieve maximum peace.
“He (the governor) has been working in cohort with the security agencies. We bought a lot of vehicles and gave them for operational activities. We support them in whatever way we can, and because of that, we have achieved relative peace in Yobe State.
“And let me tell you that Yobe State is today one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria. This is possible due to the cooperation we give to the security agencies and the untiring efforts of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Honourable Mai Mala Buni, for being forthcoming with whatever the security may require the government to do.
“As chief law officer of the state, he feels that he has both moral and legal obligations to cooperate with the security agencies to achieve maximum peace in Yobe State,” the commissioner said.
Hon. Samanja described the award as “A morale booster for His Excellency to continue doing the good work he is doing as far as seeing that normalcy is restored in Yobe State.”
