Ondo Poll: Agbo Ajayi Promises To Democratize NURTW,  As State’s Transport Workers Pledge Support

The Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the Ondo State’s scheduled gubernatorial election, HE, Agboola Ajayi, has assured members the state’s National Union Road Transport Workers ( NURTW) of a complete democratisation of the body if elected governor.

Ajayi gave the assurance on Friday, when members of the union across the state converged to declare support for  his candidacy.

The declaration event which took place at the instance of the NURTW leadership and supported by PDP leader and former Attorney General in the state, Eyitayo Jegede SAN, witnessed the presence of the transport workers from all the zones across the state.

Declaring  support on behalf of members for the PDP candidate, former Vice Chairman of Ondo West NURTW, Folajimi Akinifesi, said the union members have made up their mind to ensure Ajayi becomes the next Governor of the state.

The NURTW chief who said members present at the event are bonafide members of the  union, however, registered the fear of being harassed  by the government  of the day, over their support for the PDP candidate.

He requested that the Agbo Ajayi led government, when it becomes a reality, should  allow the union run an independent government.
” We are no touts, we have our vehicles, we are dedicated members of road transport union, don’t forget us when you get there.

” We want to run a government of our own, devoid of government imposition of leaders” the union leader said

Speaking in the same vein, Folorunsho Marcus,the Vice Chairman of Oyemekun branch of the NURTW pledged that the union members would be part of the day to day campaign of the PDP candidate, whose victory in the coming election, he said,  is guaranteed.

Responding to the union members requests, Ajayi promised that his government will assist the union to democratize it’s operation.

He said his government will not do anything that will threaten the peace of the state, hence, it will assist the union enthrone it’s leadership without any interference.

” We will return the union to the members. We are not interested in unionism, we won’t condone illegality,hence, we won’t impose leaders on you”

Assuring the road workers that ” we won’t allow anybody harass you for surporting us” Ajayi said, if he becomes governor, he will appoint a Special Adviser from among the members who will work with him on their behalf.

Speaking earlier, the Director General of the PDP Campaign, Chief Clement Faboyede had assured the transport workers of the dividends of democracy.

He said all the benefits they enjoyed during the last PDP regime in the state which had since ceased, will be made available in multiple folds.

He assured them of the accountability attitude of Ajayi whom he said, will do the bidding of the people.
The event was witnessed by members of the PDP  Campaign Council and leaders of the party across the State .
