Ahead of the scheduled governorship election in Ondo state, His Excellency, Agboola Alfred Ajayi, has urged the people of the state, especially those of voting age, to take advantage of the ongoing Independent National Electoral Commission’ (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, to do the needful and prevent being disenfranchised on election day.
Ajayi is the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the planned November 2024 election.
Speaking in Akure on Tuesday, the former deputy governor, urged the citizens to ensure they do everything needed to be done, to make them eligible to vote in November.
Commending INEC on the CVR initiative, Ajayi said it is important the people take advantage of the the exercise, as it is an opportunity for those who wish to transfer their registration from other States or from one location to another within the States to do so, adding that it is also a window , for those with damaged or lost PVCs to get new ones.
” I want to implore us residents in the state, to mobilize our kith and kin resident outside of the state to come and do the needful, to enable them vote in November.
” The coming election is a great opportunity for us as a people to cast our votes and determine what we want for ourselves in the next four years.
” Election periods are opportunities to effect changes where they are desired and that change can only be effected If people have what it takes to have their say through the ballot” the PDP candidate said.
He insisting that ” power resides with the people and only the people can determine who they want to entrust it with and at the time made available by the electoral umpire”
Recall that the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Sam Olumekun had on Monday , announced the commencement of the CVR exercise, even as he revealed
that the online locator for the registration centres had been released for easy identification.
He said that to facilitate easy access to the CVR locations, the commission had already shared the hard copies of detailed names and addresses of the centres with stakeholders, adding that
the locations had also been uploaded to its website and social media platforms.
“In addition, the commission is releasing an easy online locator of the registration centres. Interested persons can send an SMS to a dedicated number (09136913660) from their mobile phones indicating the name of the State, Local Government Area and Ward.
“ In return, they will receive the detailed address of the centre and a Google map to lead them there. Alternatively, interested registrants can simply visit our website http://cvr.inecnigeria.org/locator.
“A short graphic of the procedure for accessing the registration centres has been uploaded to our website and social media platforms,’’ he said.
