A highly populated Community in Akure,the Ondo state Capital, Isinigbo, is at the risk of total extinction, following repeated flooding.
The Akure North Local Government area located Isinigbo -Odeigede Community residents, recorded one of thier worst flooding experience on the 3rd of September following a 2-day downpour.
Though the previous frequent downpour which resulted in a degree of flooding in the community,had exposed the vulnerabilities of the community to imminent flooding and it was a matter of time before a serious havoc would be wreaked.
The fear of flooding eventually played out on the 3rd of September as a life was lost and properties worth millions of naira lost to the aggressive flooding of the area.
The heavy downpour resulted in the flooding of the Community, with a greater part of the road leading into the Community washed away. The river overran it’s bank and left the residents with no choice of an alternative route out of the area.
The PageNews reliably gathered that close to 2000 people have already been rendered homeless as a result of the Sept 3rd’s downpour.
